Hancock transferred that same discipline and desire, along with the belief that one’s goal may be reached by pushing themselves to new and greater limits, by venturing into the world of mountaineering.
Starting in 1998 with rock, ice, alpine and expedition climbing and through inexhaustible and indefatigable power he would become in 2008, only the 13th Canadian to have climbed all Seven Summits; the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. To date only 202 individuals have accomplsihed this feat.
Add to the fact that he achieved this status in six years while also holding down a fulltime job and it is even more of a remarkable conquest.
In total, Hancock has completed well over 20 difficult, expedition-style summits, many with substantial vertical ice and rock sections.
Hancock is an inspiration within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo giving motivational speeches to young and old.
His message: “Success is willing to try something new, you may be not very good at it, it may not be for you, but you succeed because you tried. Getting to the top of a mountain is the goal. Success is getting back down safely.”
